Lauren Halsey is an artist who’s best known for architectural installations and sculptures focused on community and memory, particularly in her native South Los Angeles. She created a sneaker in collaboration with Nike. Lauren’s collection for Nike comprises sneakers, socks, and t-shirts. The shoes are a remixed version of the brand’s Air Force 1 High style. The shoes are different tones of black, but their laces are green and red, and the tabs on the front of the sneakers bear the words “Neighborhood,” “Autonomy,” “Pride,” and “Love.” The insole of the sneakers features a collage of images of Los Angeles architecture and people, with photos of the artist’s grandmother and cousins featured.
